At Brieden Orthodontics, our goal is to help patients achieve straight and healthy smiles. We accomplish this by offering a wide variety of efficient orthodontics that include braces and Invisalign. Our team is dedicated to compassionate orthodontic care that extends not only during the orthodontic process, but after it as well. In fact, just because your braces are removed or Invisalign treatment has been completed, it doesn’t mean that there’s no more work left that needs to be done. You still need to take care in order to make sure that your teeth remain straight after treatment is over. Don’t worry though! We’ll be here to help the entire way and we’ll even be glad to give you some tips on how to maintain your straight teeth after your orthodontics are removed.

Wear Your Retainer

The most vital thing to remember when it comes to keeping your teeth straight after braces or other orthodontics is to wear your retainer. While the goal of orthodontics is to move your teeth into a straight alignment, the retention phase is used to make sure that your teeth stay in those positions. Teeth naturally want to shift over time in small increments; a retainer will put the brakes on that and prevent them from shifting. It’s important to note that because not all patients are the same, the necessary retainer usage will differ from patient to patient. Make sure to wear your retainer just as it’s prescribed by your orthodontist here at Brieden Orthodontics and remember to take care of it as well!

Perform Good Oral Hygiene

The cornerstone of keeping your teeth straight is to maintain good (or great!) oral hygiene. A good oral hygiene regimen typically consists of brushing twice a day as well as flossing. This is beneficial to keeping your teeth straight as it will make your gums and teeth healthier and stronger, making them more resistant to shifting out of their proper alignment.

Visit Your Dentist

Finally, we recommend that you visit your dentist about once every six months. By visiting your dentist, you’ll be able to stay up-to-date about if you have any underlying oral problems, including things such as gum disease or wisdom teeth eruption. These problems can potentially cause your teeth to shift and move out of place. Your dentist will let you know if anything like that is occurring as well as give you the proper instructions needed to combat any of these problems if they appear.
