FOODS TO AVOID
STICKY FOODS: Please stay away from sticky, gummy, chewy foods that could tug on the wires, such as: gum, caramel, taffy, licorice, gummy bears, Fruit Roll-ups, Tootsie Rolls, Air Head Ropes, Starburst, Milk Duds, etc.
HARD FOODS: Please avoid hard foods that could pop a brace loose, such as: Ice cubes, hard pizza crust, hard bagels, beef jerky sticks, suckers, hard candies, Jolly Ranchers, etc. Please break apart Doritos, hard taco shells, pita chips, etc
HIGH ACID FOODS: No sucking on lemons, limes or oranges
CANDY BARS: Choose soft candy bars. Avoid candy bars with nuts or toffee.
POP/SODA: Limit sugar intake as much as possible when wearing braces. If possible, rinse with water afterwards, when having an occasional soda.
RAW FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: Please cut raw fruits and vegetables into bite sized pieces to chew with your back teeth. Especially, apples, pears, carrots, celery, corn on the cob, etc.
DO NOT: Do not bite on pens, pencils, finger nails, etc...
Each time a brace comes loose or a wire breaks, it can cause a delay in treatment. By avoiding these foods, and keeping your teeth and gums healthy, your orthodontic treatment will progress as planned without unnecessary delay. This means your treatment may go faster.
